Tame amp noise and other unwanted sounds between passages. LEARN sets the detection band, and the Guitar & Bass preset helps noise fade smoothly, even with high-gain tones. If LEARN selects a low frequency, try moving Freq to 1–2 kHz to help distinguish the performance from hum.
A tom gate that keeps opening on snare bleed? Frequency-focused detection can help. Run LEARN over the hits you want to keep, then choose a preset for a tight cut or a more natural decay.
To quiet the gaps between sung phrases, select the Vocal preset, then press LEARN. It analyses the full frequency range for ten seconds and sets the threshold only, so words that begin with “s” and other high consonants still open the gate. Loop a sung section that includes a pause between phrases. If soft endings get cut, lower Threshld slightly.
02 / HOW IT WORKS
Loop a guitar riff, a tom fill or a bass line you want to keep, then press LEARN. It listens for five seconds and sets the three values that determine what opens the gate.
Loop a passage with the instrument clearly audible.
LEARN analyzes the passage.
Freq, Q and Threshld update on the panel, so you can see the settings it chose.
The analyzed spectrum and selected band appear in the right-hand display. Press LISTEN to hear the detection signal. After learning, choose a preset for the gate’s response and fine-tune as needed. UNDO takes you back to the previous settings.

03 / WHY IT WORKS
A guitar note fading away. The body of a tom. A softly played bass note. A gate lowers the level between phrases, but level alone can be a poor guide to what you want to keep.
A sidechain filter lets the gate focus on the frequency range of a particular instrument. Finding the right frequency and bandwidth usually means searching by ear.
Gate Auto handles that setup. LEARN analyzes five seconds of audio and sets the detection band and threshold. You can then adjust the closing time and attenuation while listening to the decay of the notes.
